A highlight from this visit was explaining to Mr. Grossberg’s sculpture students how important ceramic art is in Montana. “We have one of the top clay residency programs in the country, the Archie Bray in Helena”, I explained. I then showed them Josh Deweese’s pitcher and Beth Lo’s ceramic piece. I discussed how both artists were involved with the Archie Bray. We also talked about Rudy Autio and why he is so famous in Montana.
At the end of the day, I really did want this sculpture class to know that Montana clay is a big deal! I noticed a few students flipping through the artist binder and reading more about our lending artists. A few sculpture students may have found a role model in the arts from our visit. What an impact!
